How to look up many ZIP codes at once

  1. Paste your ZIP codes into the box above. Put them one per line, or separate them with commas or spaces. You can copy a whole column straight from Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Press Look up ZIP codes. The tool checks up to 1,000 ZIP codes in about a second, right in your browser.
  3. Review the results. A summary at the top shows how many ZIP codes were found, how many weren’t, how many duplicates there were, and how many different cities and counties your list covers.
  4. Download or copy. Press Download CSV to save a spreadsheet-ready file, or Copy table to paste the results back into Excel or Google Sheets.

The tool understands ZIP+4 codes too. If your list has codes like 77002-1234, it reads the first five digits and looks those up.

What the results mean

ColumnWhat it shows
CityThe city name the U.S. Postal Service uses for that ZIP code
CountyThe ZIP code’s primary county
TypeStandard, PO Box, or Unique (see below)
Area codesTelephone area codes used in that ZIP code
Latitude / LongitudeThe approximate center point of the ZIP code
StatusFound, Not found, or Duplicate

A ZIP code marked Not found either has a typo, belongs to another state, or is no longer an active Texas ZIP code. This tool covers Texas only, so ZIP codes from other states always show as not found.

The three types of Texas ZIP codes

Texas has 2,599 active ZIP codes, and they come in three types:

  • Standard (1,731): cover real geographic areas with street delivery. These are what you’ll see on most home and business addresses.
  • PO Box (762): used only for post office boxes. A PO Box ZIP code on a street address is a common reason for returned or delayed mail.
  • Unique (106): assigned to a single organization that receives a lot of mail, such as a university, a large company, or a government office.

Checking the type column is a quick way to spot problems in a customer or mailing list, such as PO Box ZIP codes where you expected street addresses.

Things to know about ZIP codes and counties

ZIP codes were designed for delivering mail, not for drawing county or city boundaries. Some ZIP codes cross county lines, and many use a city name for mail even when part of the ZIP code is outside that city’s limits. The county in the results is the ZIP code’s primary county. If you need the exact county for a specific street address, for example for taxes or legal paperwork, confirm it with the county appraisal district or another official source.
