How to find ZIP codes within a radius

A ZIP code radius search answers a simple question: which ZIP codes are within a certain distance of a place? This tool does it for every active ZIP code in Texas in a few seconds.

  1. Enter a center ZIP code. Type any 5-digit Texas ZIP code, or tap Use my location as the center to start from where you are.
  2. Choose a radius. Pick 5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 miles, or type your own distance up to 300 miles.
  3. Get your list. Every ZIP code inside the circle appears on the map and in a table sorted from nearest to farthest, with its city, county, and distance.
  4. Download or copy it. Use Download CSV to open the list in Excel or Google Sheets, or Copy ZIP codes to paste a comma-separated list anywhere.

By default, the tool shows only street-address ZIP codes, which is what most people need for deliveries and service areas. Untick the box to include PO Box and unique ZIP codes too.

How many ZIP codes are near Texas’s biggest cities?

The number of ZIP codes inside a radius depends a lot on where you are. Big cities pack many ZIP codes into a small area, while West Texas spreads them out. Here’s how many street-address ZIP codes fall within each distance of downtown in Texas’s largest cities:

Center (downtown ZIP)Within 5 milesWithin 10 milesWithin 25 milesWithin 50 miles
Houston (77002)2052143211
Dallas (75201)2347145253
San Antonio (78205)224286128
Austin (78701)153365114
Fort Worth (76102)123291245
El Paso (79901)6172830

Counts include street-address ZIP codes only, measured in a straight line from the center of each downtown ZIP code. Results within 50 miles of Fort Worth and Dallas overlap heavily, because the two cities are only about 30 miles apart.

Notice how El Paso’s count barely grows between 25 and 50 miles. Beyond the city, much of the surrounding land is desert, and part of the circle crosses into New Mexico and Mexico, which this Texas tool doesn’t include.

Who uses a ZIP code radius search?

  • Local businesses use it to define a service area, such as every ZIP code a plumber, cleaner, or caterer will travel to within 20 miles.
  • Delivery and shipping teams use it to set delivery zones and estimate which customers are in range.
  • Marketers use radius lists to target ads, mailers, and promotions to people near a store or event.
  • Recruiters and employers use it to find candidates within commuting distance.
  • Home buyers and renters use it to see which neighborhoods are within reach of work or school.

Straight-line distance vs driving distance

This tool measures distance “as the crow flies”: a straight line between the center points of two ZIP codes. That’s the standard way ZIP code radius searches work, and it’s ideal for comparing areas quickly. Real driving distance is almost always longer, because roads curve, highways loop around cities, and rivers or lakes get in the way. So if you need a strict driving limit, choose a radius a little smaller than that limit, then check the addresses near the edge.

Keep in mind that a ZIP code is an area, not a single point. A ZIP code whose center is 11 miles away may still include streets that are less than 10 miles away, so for precise service areas, check addresses near the edge of your radius.

Tips for better results

  • Use the downtown or main ZIP code of a city as the center when you want a city-wide radius.
  • Start smaller in big cities. A 25-mile radius around Houston or Dallas already returns well over 100 ZIP codes.
  • Include PO Box ZIP codes only if you’re working with mailing lists, since PO Box ZIPs don’t cover street addresses.
  • Not sure of your ZIP code? Use our What is my ZIP code? tool, or browse every Texas ZIP code by region from our Texas ZIP codes homepage.
