Free Texas ZIP code tool
ZIP Code Distance Calculator
Find the distance between any two Texas ZIP codes in miles and kilometers, see both on a map, or calculate many pairs at once and download the results.
Straight-line ("as the crow flies") distance between ZIP code center points. Driving distance is usually longer. Covers all 2,599 active Texas ZIP codes.
| From | From city | To | To city | Miles | Kilometers |
|---|
Straight-line distances between ZIP code center points. Lines that couldn't be read, or that use non-Texas ZIP codes, are marked.
How to use the ZIP code distance calculator
This free calculator measures the distance between any two Texas ZIP codes in a couple of seconds. There are two ways to use it:
- Two ZIP codes: type a starting ZIP code and a destination ZIP code, then press Calculate distance. You’ll see the distance in miles and kilometers, the city and county for each ZIP, the direction from one to the other, and both points on a map. Use the swap button to reverse them.
- Many pairs (bulk): paste up to 500 lines, each with two ZIP codes, and press Calculate all. You can paste two columns straight from Excel or Google Sheets. When it’s done, download the results as a CSV file or copy the table.
Distances between major Texas cities
Texas is big, and the numbers show it. Here are straight-line distances between the downtown ZIP codes of some of the state’s largest cities, calculated with this tool:
| From | To | Miles | Kilometers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dallas (75201) | Fort Worth (76102) | 30.5 | 49.1 |
| Austin (78701) | San Antonio (78205) | 73.8 | 118.8 |
| Lubbock (79401) | Amarillo (79101) | 111.7 | 179.8 |
| San Antonio (78205) | Laredo (78040) | 145.9 | 234.8 |
| Houston (77002) | Austin (78701) | 146.9 | 236.4 |
| Dallas (75201) | Austin (78701) | 182.6 | 293.9 |
| Houston (77002) | Corpus Christi (78401) | 183.7 | 295.7 |
| Houston (77002) | San Antonio (78205) | 189.7 | 305.2 |
| Houston (77002) | Dallas (75201) | 226.1 | 363.9 |
| Dallas (75201) | El Paso (79901) | 569.4 | 916.4 |
| Houston (77002) | El Paso (79901) | 674.1 | 1,084.9 |
| El Paso (79901) | Brownsville (78520) | 674.9 | 1,086.1 |
Straight-line distances between the center points of each downtown ZIP code. Driving distances are longer.
The last two rows show just how wide Texas is: downtown El Paso is roughly the same straight-line distance from Houston as it is from Brownsville at the southern tip of the state, about 674 miles either way.
How the distance is calculated
Every ZIP code in our data has a center point with a latitude and longitude. The calculator measures the shortest path between those two points across the curved surface of the Earth, using what’s called the great-circle (or haversine) formula, with the Earth’s average radius of about 3,959 miles. That’s the same method most ZIP code distance tools use, and it’s the distance a plane would cover flying directly between the two points.
Kilometers are converted from miles using the exact factor of 1.609344 kilometers per mile.
Straight-line vs driving distance
A straight line is the shortest possible distance, so your actual drive will almost always be longer. Highways rarely run in a perfectly straight line between two places, and rivers, lakes, and city layouts add extra miles. Straight-line distance is still the best way to compare places quickly, which is why it’s the standard for ZIP code distance calculations, shipping zone estimates, and radius searches. For turn-by-turn driving distance, use a mapping app.
It also helps to remember that a ZIP code is an area, not a single point. Two addresses near the shared edge of neighboring ZIP codes can be much closer than the distance between the ZIP codes’ centers.
Who uses a ZIP code distance calculator?
- Shipping and e-commerce: estimating how far orders travel, comparing warehouse locations, or checking delivery zones.
- Sales and service teams: planning territories, scheduling technicians, and sorting customers by distance.
- Movers and relocation: comparing how far a new home is from work, family, or school.
- Recruiters and HR: checking commuting distance for candidates and staff.
- Data and spreadsheet work: the bulk mode turns a list of ZIP pairs into a ready-to-use distance column.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the distance between two ZIP codes?
Enter both ZIP codes in the calculator above and press Calculate distance. You’ll get the straight-line distance in miles and kilometers, plus a map showing both locations.
Is this driving distance?
No. It’s straight-line distance between the center points of the two ZIP codes. Driving distance is usually longer.
Can I calculate many ZIP code distances at once?
Yes. Choose Many pairs (bulk), paste up to 500 lines with two ZIP codes each, and download the results as a CSV file.
How far is Houston from Dallas by ZIP code?
Downtown Houston (77002) and downtown Dallas (75201) are about 226 miles (364 kilometers) apart in a straight line.
Does this work for ZIP codes outside Texas?
Not yet. The calculator covers all 2,599 active Texas ZIP codes.
